| Over the years, Japanese basket artists have been inspired by shapes from other parts of Asia. The gourd is a classic example of the Japanese adoption of borrowed forms. Sliced bamboo root has been randomly inserted into the body of this double gourd to create texture and movement. Thin strips of bamboo have been twisted, braided and then wrapped around the middle to imitate a cord. It rests on a rootwood stand. Good condition with some of the bamboo root being loose.
