Eash piece has been finely hand-chiselled in "katakiribori" technique with a design depicting the "Four Noble Plants" (Shikunshi: chrysanthemum, orchid, plum and bamboo). Description: An exceptionally rare Chinese mother of pearl gaming counter made for Queen Charlotte (1744-1818) wife of George III (1738-1820) of England. On one side very finely engraved with the Queen's arms (England quarterly impaling Mecklenburg-Strelitz), the reverse with the initials 'CR' beneath the Queen's crown. She has inset glass eyes, eyelashes and bone teeth. Probably made to be used in a shop selling kimono, hair ornaments or cosmetics. Signed on the base: 'Respectfully made by TANIMOTO (Osaka)'.
