|Description: A carved "keyaki" (zelkova) wood tray of leaf shape, the front carved with vegetables (daikon, chestnut) and the reverse border carved with fruit around a central motif of five bats ("The Five Blessings") and clouds. Carved seal form signature:SHUDO (ICHIKAWA SHUDO 1868-1936). Shudo, who was of samurai origins, was one of the best carvers of trays and objects for the Sencha tea ceremony. Date: circa 1910 Size: 19.5" wide, 14.5" deep, 1.5" high. Excellent condition (two tiny cracks).|
