| These elegant sterling tongs have a maker's mark of 'GS' over 'TE', which I've not been able to find in any of my books of hallmarks. There are three hallmarks; the King's head, a lion and the date mark 'A' for 1796. There is an elaborate monogram on the top which might be 'MPT'. There are also letters written along the inside of one arm that are now faint; the tongs must be turned to catch the light to see them. They could be 'tye' or 'dye' and 'lrj' or 'lkj'. The tongs are 5 1/2 inches long and are a good weight. Sorry I can't give you the exact weight. | ||
