A Damun-Cheon Wang (多聞天王) of 4 Havenly Kings (四天王): (King of the North); Korea, Unified Silla Dynasty (668-935), This Damun-Cheon Wang is one of Four Hevenly Kings (Four Kings:四天王, Jiguk-Cheon, Jeungjang-Cheon, Gwangmok-Cheon and Damun- Cheion) in Buddhism, and King of the North. He has powers, all knowing, hears all and always listening, and this king carries magic umbrella, mongoose and stupa with supermatural power that protect against thunderstorms. This is one of extremely rare Korean Buddhist sculptures in pottery tile, a square form with heavy and deep moulded Damu-Cheon Wang, very good condition without any noticeable damages, measures 19.5”x 19.5” x 4” approx. ***The Four Heavenly Kings are the remarkable beings that protect the four corners of the world. In Chinese Buddhism, they are popularly known as the Great Dharma Protectors, seen in the shrines of the Matreiya Buddha. The Four Heavenly Kings have the power to control the weather and climate on Earth. They each carry a distinctive magical weapon that represents the source of their supernatural powers. When you invite these images into your homes, they are said to afford protection against pernicious attacks that may be aimed at you.Two of the Heavenly Kings have friendly faces and fair colored complexion. The other two show a more ferocious and darker appearance. This represents that the GOODNESS in this world must be taught and implemented both through gentle and authoritative means
