A Paulonia Wood Scholar’s Ink-Stone Box (Yon-Sang): Korea, Choson period, 19th Century, This is a simple Paulonia wood ink stone bos, but it’s functional ink-stone box with naïve patina outsides. This three-tiered box stored the writing tools; ink sticks, water droppers, brushes and books. The opened shelf at the bottom allowed books and rolls of paper to be immediately accessible and its horizontal draw allowed ink sticks, brushes and other scholar’s utensils. This ink-stone box has two compartments in the upper section with each lid also for ink stone and other related materials. It’s in quite good condition without any repair,or refinished but two short bars on the lower panel (bottom) missing long time ago. Measurements; 40cm x 26cm x 26cm h.
