A Fine/Rare Gilt Bronze Seated Buddha Figure of Amitabha;
Korea,Koryo dynasty, 13th -14th Century,
Cast solid, seated dhyanasana with hands held in vitarkamudra (gesture of appeasement),
the head of rounded-rectangular shape surmounted by a unisa above rows of coiled hair,
the head titled slightly forward and the eye downcast under slender arched brows,
the body draped in a flowing robe open at the chest and falling in petal-like pleats below the
knees on a single up-downright lotus bud petal stand, two loops attached on the back petal stand.
Some gild lost, otherwise it is in very good condition.
It measures 21 cm. h. x 11 cm. base length x 8 cm. base wide (8 1/4” x 4 5/8” x 3 1/8”). *** A similar shape of seated amtabha buddha figure sold at Christie’s, NY, Korean Works of Art, April, 22, 1992, lot #73.
