Rare King of Hell Painting  Surrounded by 3 Officials
A Very Rare Korean King of Hell Painting Surrounded by 3 Officials-19th C.: Korea, late 18th or early 19th century, framed. This unusual King of Hell from Buddhist paintings shows of a King and 3 officials and a group of 9 or 10 scenes of tortures, here the King of Hell is shown with a crown, seated on a throne in a half view, his mouth open because he is scentencing unfortunate soul to hell, two officials hold scrolls on which the decceed’s deeds reading and one official hold book for record, the colors of this painting are of bright dark red, brownish red meineral pigments on background, and painted in ink, white and silver, some colors are worn away, It’s in very fine condition with minor discoloration. It measures 76.5cm x 47cm (30 ¼” x 18 ½”) painting only, or 92cm x 63.5cm (36 ¼” x 25”) overall including frame.
