An Extremely Rare Korean Koryo White Porcelain Melon-Form Ewer/Cover, 13th C.: Korea, Koryo period, 12th -13th Century This ewer formed in melon shape with a clear blusih white glaze is an extremely rare, it has looped handle and arched spout, eight lobes rising from a flat foot with slightly recessed base. It is fitted with a slender and curved spout set opposite the loop handle with a small tap for attachment to the looped stem forming the knob on the lobed cover. It is covered overall with a clear white bluish celadon glaze with some crackle glazes It is in very good condition without any repairs and chips except firing cracks on the body. Measure:13.2cm h. x 17.7cm d. ***The several known and published white-glazed wares tend to be either in maebyong, cosmetic box or bowl shapes. However, the delightful addition of the molded decorated melon shape ewer, as seen on this present piece, makes this example even more rare.
