| A Very Magnificently Painted/lacquered Octagonal Box and Cover: China, Ching Dynasty, early 19th Century, This large circular formed octagonal box and cover with a compartmentalized separate base, decorated with very finely painted, the flat top of the cover depicting two butterflies confronted in center and 4 butterflies and surrounding stylized banana leave sprays in gold and light color lacquers , the sloping sides with a symbol of treasures, bats and clouds, each side of body with a similar panels containing floral prunus tree with birds , a beauty playing musical instrument, relaxing under paulownia tree, dancing in a haven with holding a flower, bamboo with birds, lotus with geese and etc. painted continuously between the upper and lower sides of the exteriors in gold and light color lacquers too, the base with similar panels containing bats and clouds, the foot with small panels of band of key pattern between a single line on the black lacquer ground, the interior and bottom painted in very dark black lacquer. It is in very fine condition but painted gold lacquer rubbed on edges ((It has normal, minimal damages in this 19th century old octagonal box). It measures 45.5cm in diameter x 34.5cm in height (17 1/2” x 13 3/8”). | ||
