| A Very Fine Blue and White Porcelain Bottle Vase: Korea, Choson period, 19th century, This is one of the best examples of Korean ceramics made in the late Choson dynasty. Carefully potted with a rolled rim extruding around the long neck that spreads downward toward the wide body, its rounded walls tapering sharply inward above a splayed foot ring, its exterior painted in deep cobalt underglaze wash and line with three bats hovering around branched of flowering peony and the outer edge of the foot striped en suite with a narrow band, the lustrous glaze covering all surfaces except the flat foot pad displaying a pleasing celadon cast where thickly pooled on the interior of the neck and across the carefully recessed base between the ring foot. It is in mint condition. Measures 12 ¼” x 9” Note: the vase is a well known shape in late Choson ceramics with butterflies sometimes replacing the bats on this example. For a similar shape in the collection of the National Museum of Korea, and the other famous collections of Korean art. | ||
