A Very Rare/Fine Wood Altar Attendant (Dong-Ja): Korea, Choson Dynasty, 19th Century, This is a very rare standing wood carved Dong-Ja Attendant with gold enameled, with both hands classed in front of him, and wearing a benign expression, Set on a gold plinth, his face is expressed a very calm and warm with two Balls on top of the head in black painted. It is in very fine condition with minor cracks related with age (It has normal, minimal damages in this old mid 19th century in Korean folk art). It measures 62.3cm x 25.4cm, (24 1/2” x 10”) ***This type of delightful enameled wooden figures are splendid examples of Korean folk sculpture. A Dong-Ja like this usually stood on the altar table in Front of a painting of the Mountain Spirit or other deity.
