A Landscape 10 Panel Screen by AHN CHUNG SHIK (1861-1919) Korea, C.1900, Ten Panel Screen of Seasonal Birds, animals and landscapes: Signed Shim Chon, Sealed Ahn Chung Shik and Shim Chon. It is a 10 panel folding screen, ink and color on silk. It is one of his early works and painted with seasonal landscapes. It was for a 10 panel folding screen, but now each panel removed from the folding screen frame when they brought into America from Korea. It is in very good condition.There is no any noticeable damages. Measures 46 ¾” high and 13 ¼” wide each panel. He is one of the most predominant painters in Korean modern painting history About Him: Ahn Chung Shik was born in Seoul and studied painting under O Won, Chang Sung-Up (1843-1897). In 1881 he went to China with Cho Sok-Chin (1853-1920) and studied drawing and Chinese. His work was shown at the “Seohwa Misul” exhibition in Seoul during the years 1913-16. In 1918, he organized the “Hyehwa Ruck” Art association and he became the first president. He is well known as a landscape bird and flower painter and is one of the greatest exponents of modernism in 20th century Korean painting. From Doyle auction house, New York.
