Very Rare Hanging Scroll  Calligraphy by Yi Wan-Yong
A Very Rare Hanging Scroll Calligraphy by Yi Wan-Yong (1858-1926): Korea, Circa 1900s Hanging scroll, ink on paper, mounted on brocade, signed Il Dang, YI Wan-Yong with seals. It¡¯s in very good conditon without any damages. Measures; About Yi Wan-Yong; He was a politician in late Choson dynasy and early Korea, probably the most infamous traitor in Korean history, He played a leading role in the annexation of the Korea by Japan, in 1905, having won the recognition from Russia, England and America of its interests in Korea, Japan moved to establish a protectorate over Korea, Japan persuaded Yi, He threatened Emperor Kojong to accept the Protectorate Treaty and later, forced him to abdicate. In 1910, despite the nation wide protest in Korea,Yi, as the Japanese-promoted representative of the Korean government, signed forth the annexation agreement. Yi Wan-Yong was also an accomplished calligrapher and patron of art.
