A Rare/Fine Pierced, Inscribed and Dated Brush Pot
A Rare/Fine Pierced, Inscribed and Dated Brush Pot: Korea, Choson period, 19th Century, The cylindrical form pierced with a trellis design and carved in relief with a tasseled rope pattern, the rim with a matching rope design, covered with a thick blue-tinged white glaze, the base inscription partially obscures by sand, with two panels carved in relief with cyclical date and name characters. This brush pot was dedicated to the dedicatee’s name inscribed with year of the birth (Gap-O Year, 1834,1894,) on the sides, too. It has an incised “x” mark on the interior bottom. This brush pot is extremely rare with for whom named, his birth year and when this pot made. It is in fine condition with a short hair line crack on the rim. It measures 4” h. x 3 3/4” d. *** Provenance; This white glazed brush pot was in collection of a prominent collector Mr. Robert Moore, which was sold at Christie’s, New York, Oct. 1986, lot #182
