An Extremely Rare/Fine Red Lacquer Scholar’s Table
A Extremely Rare/Fine Red Lacquer Scholar’s Table: Korea, late 18th -19th Century, This red lacquered and mother of pearl inlaid writing table is an extremely rare as a Korean, Joseon dynasty’s scholar;s table, of rectangular section with rectangular top with fitted two upward-curved flanges without any metal hinges and supported on the undersides by 4 reticulated scroll brackets, and also supported on the double straight legs, fitted with a long drawer decorated in mother of pearl inlay with grapes, vines and squirells playing with grapes and C handle knob, the both side panels fitted with apron shaped open carved panel mother of pearl inlaid with floral scroll and flowers, the four legs supported by long narrow bars and its back side panel decorated in mother of pearl inlay with bamboos. This table is an unusual in the shape, red lacquered on the whole surfaces and mother of perarl inlaid with squirells, grapevines, bamboo, 4 cranes, peach tree and peaches, 4 bats fungus, 2 auspicious characters and 2 butterflies.on the top surface, and its drawer and its other interiors are black lacquered. It’s in very fine condition without any replaces, retouches and break except some mother of pearl inlays off on the top surface and red lacquer removed on the corners related with an old use. Measurements: 33” L. x 18” W. x 13” H. (84cm x 45.7cm x 33cm)
