Purse made of deer skin which has design by smoking with stencil on it. It is called "fusube-gawa". It has beautiful metal work of "Fujin" who is a god of wind and controles it. Fujin and Raijin, who controles thunder, is a popular motif and often seen in many art works and crafts. The most well-known one is "Fujin Raijin-zu Byobu (folding screen)" by Tawaraya Sotatsu. The fujin is hand-carved of copper and has silver inlay. He has a big bag with full of air. The purse has three pockets...

Tobacco case with wood netsuke. It is made of deer skin with letters and a crest which are dyed with the technique called "fusube-gawa". The deer skin is smoked with burning rice straws and gets brown color. Fusube-gawa is used for armors or wallets in Edo period. It has carved wooden netsuke. In good condition except for open seam in the side. 11.8cm x 17.5cm Diameter of netsuke: 6cm 19th century

This is a set of woman's tobacco case and pipe case which are made of deer skin and has fine katazome ( stencil-dyeing ) komon pattern. The motif is pine needle. It has beautiful clasp of green bean motif which shows prominent craftsmanship in this age. The set also has a pipe, but it seems that it is not an original one as it is shorter than the case. 19th century. In good condition except for some patina. Tobacco case: 12cm x 6.7cm Pipe case: 2.7cm x 20cm
