This is a wooden red urushi zushi which is a cupboard-like container with double doors in which a Buddhist image, Sutra, or some other objects is kept at a temple or at home. The Buddhist image inside is lost, however this zushi is well made in details such as beautiful makie work in "Seigaiha" pattern and the copper latches of the doors. The red urushi outside as well as gilted inside are in excellent condition. Probably 19th century. H:10cm W:4.5cm D:3cm

Miniature zushi with a tiny wooden Buddhist image (Dainichi-nyorai) inside. Zushi is a cupboard-like container with double doors in which a Buddhist image, Sutra, or some other objects is kept at a temple or at home. This one is made of wood and coated with black urushi and gilded inside. The Dainichi-nyorai is a wood sculpture and original so that it is not removable. It might have been taken with a traveler. Dochu-gi (coat) made of kudzu-fu (kudzu is "devil's tongue in English), which is handwoven of kudzu fibers for wefts and cotton threads for warps.
