This is a woman's summer kimono made of Ojiya-chijimi which is produced in Ojiya city in Niigata Prefecture, which has been produced there since early Edo period (17th century). Its feature is that it is handwoven of choma (ramie) wefts as well as warps but only wefts are tightly twisted so that the surface of the fabric becomes uneven. This one has weft kasuri pattern. It is not clear that the shibori textile was made in Arimatsu Narumi region in Aichi Pref. or Akita Pref. in Tohoku, however it is from a collector in Tohoku. This is a chu-ya obi ( sash ). "Chu-ya" means "day and night" and chu-ya obi is a sash which has two different designs and textiles in both sides. It has beautiful embroidery of wisteria and cherry blossom motifs on beige satin ground and bright color katazome ( stencil-dyeing ) flowers on thick silk crepe ground.
