This is an Omi-kasuri asa child's summer kimono. Omi-kasuri was produced in Omi region in Shiga prefecture near Kyoto. It has scenery design of pine trees and bridges which are double ikat. It is hand woven kasuri ( warp and weft ) and dyed with natural indigo. In excellent condition except for a few stains in the front body and a small hole and rifts in the neck. This is a patched vest ( dogi ) which is made of silk crepe, plain silk, wild silk and figured silk satin. Red and purple stripe cloths are wild silk. The techniques are katazome ( stencil-resist-dyeing ) and kasuri ( ikat ). It has rare hand embroidered "kamon ( crest )" in the back. It has many moth holes especially in the collar and cloths in the both top shoulders are damaged, however it has original beautiful colors yet. Ca. mid 19th C. 45cm x 70cm 18inch x 27inch1/2

This is a patched juban made of silk crepe and plain silk. The techniques are shibori ( tie-dyeing ), katazome ( stencil-resist-dyeing ). It has an elaborate komon cloth for which very finely cut stencil paper is used. It is all dyed with natural colors such as natural indigo, safflower and so on. It has many moth holes and rifts. This is a portable lantern made of a kind of a vine plant and Japanese paper coated with persimmon tannin for water proof. It has holes in the paper part and rifts in the woven vine part. Ca. 1900s. Diameter 20cm 7inch4/5 Height when extended 24cm 9inch2/5

This is an iron candle stand with beautiful rust. The jointing part of the platform and the pole is a bit loose, however no problem for use. The pole used to be extensible but it does not work now. This is a katazome ( stencil-resist-dyeing ) juban ( under kimono ) made of hand woven cotton cloth and dyed with natural indigo. The cloth inside of the collar is dyed with safflower. In excellent condition. Meiji era ( 1868~1912 ). 60cm x 63cm 23inch2/3 x 25inch

This is a very worn-out and wash-out cotton sleeveless juban called asehajiki ( literal meaning is sweat repeller ). It has beautiful faded natural indigo blue. It has some thin parts and rips. Meiji era ( ca. 1900s ). 52cm 20inch1/2 65cm 25inch2/3

This is a beautiful silk patched juban ( under kimono ) which is made of Edo chirimen ( silk crepe ), wild silk and plain silk. The techniques are tie-dyeing, hand painting and stencil-resist-dyeing. The purple and red parts are woven of wild silk. All the cloths are dyed with natural colors such as natural indigo, safflower and so on. This juban is a good example of prominent techniques of weaving and dyeing in Edo era. It has a cotton lining...

This is a beautiful yukata ( cotton kimono ) with tie-dyeing. It has some stains and patinas by aging, however in good condition as a whole. Taisho era ( ca 1920s ). 124cm x 136cm 49" x 53.5"

This is a sakiori dogi ( vest ) woven of cotton shreds as wefts which were torn from old cloths. Warps are asa ( hemp ). In good condition except for rifts in the lower back. Late Meiji or Taisho era ( ca. 1900s~1920s ). 27cm x 71cm 10.6" x 28"
