This is a Sueki lidded bowl with a leg. Sueki is a hard earthenware which is shaped on the wheel and burnt in the kiln with rather high temperature. It was made between 5th to 9th century in many places in Japan and the original technique was came from Korea. The usage of it was keeping food or liquid, or used in rituals. Probably this one was used in a ritual. Generally in good condition except for two chips in the bowl. Height:12cm Diameter:12cm

This wooden tobacco tray with drawers is an another example of beautiful craftsmanship in old days. Two copper containers are for ash (larger one) and water(smaller one). Noshi (an ornament put on a gift ) pattern is carved out in the back. In good condition except for two chips in front. Meiji era ( 1868~1912). Height 16.5cm 6.5" Width 24.5cm 9.6" Depth 14cm 5.5"

This is a fukusa made of silk satin with embroideries of a crane and a turtle which are auspicious motifs. Fukusa is a gift cover used in the formal occasion. It has benibana ( safflower ) dyed silk crepe lining. It has wear in the ground satin cloth, wear in the embroideries and some of the embroidery threads are loose. The motif of this painting is "Korofune ( Black Ship )" which came to Japan from western countries between 16th and the former 19th century and called "Black Ship" as it was painted in black.
