This is a cape, called "Maru-gappa" or "Hikimawashi" which is made of hand-woven and natural indigo dyed cotton kasuri cloth on both sides. It was worn in case of travel or rain. It has oil coated Japanese paper for waterproof inside. The word "kappa" came from Portuguese "capa". The Portuguese first came to Japan in ca. 17th century. The former half of the 19th century. In excellent condition except for buttons are lost. Length 109cm 43" Width when it is extended 236cm 7ft9"

These are bags made of hand-spun cotton and have katazome ( stencil-dyeing ) pattern. They are dyed with natural indigo and natural yellow dye. It is not sure what was put in, probably swords or alike. Generally in good condition but each has minor damages such as small moth holes. The latter half of the 19th century. This is a sodenashi ( sleeveless ) han-juban ( under kimono ) made of hand-spun cotton with katazome ( stencil-dyeing ) and dyed with natural indigo. The jishiro ( white ground ) katazome is left fewer than indigo ground one. The latter half of the 19th century.
