This is a patched juban made of silk crepe and plain silk. The techniques are shibori ( tie-dyeing ), katazome ( stencil-resist-dyeing ). It has an elaborate komon cloth for which very finely cut stencil paper is used. It is all dyed with natural colors such as natural indigo, safflower and so on. It has many moth holes and rifts. This is a Kurume kasuri futon cover which is hand woven and dyed with natural indigo. Kurume region in Fukuoka prefecture has been a producing center of "Kurumegasuri" since ca. 1800, late Edo era. This is a geometric design of Japanese castle. A double ikat mosaic pattern is a characteristic of Kurumegasuri. In excellent condition except for a stain in the bottom area.
