This is an oval box with a lid made of bentwood ( magemono ) and coated with urushi. The technique called "magemono" is bending wood plates such as Japanese cedar or Japanese cypress and bound with bark strips of the cherry tree or bamboo strips. This box has beautiful patterns of cherry strips. What was put in this box is not clear. It has three different owner's names. In good condition but has some scratches, chips and some parts urushi came off. 19th or early 20th century...

This is a beautiful andon, lantern made of wood and coated with red urushi ( Japanese lacquer ). It has two circles and each one has Japanese paper half pasted and one of them can turn so that the light source can be controlled. In good condition but has some chips and scratches. This wooden tobacco tray with drawers is an another example of beautiful craftsmanship in old days. Two copper containers are for ash (larger one) and water(smaller one).
