This is a lithograph print by Morita Kohei ( 1916~1994 ) who was a Japanese style painter and studied under Yasuda Yukihiko. It is titled "Sakura-fubuki ( petals of the cherry blossoms are blowing in the wind )". His works are known that they got subjects from old stories and histories. It is 74th of the 100 prints. This is a kimono made of bashofu ( banana fiber cloth ) which was made in Ryukyu Islands ( now Okinawa ). Bashofu is handwoven of fibers taken from Ryukyu basho ( one kind of banana tree ). It is said that bashofu had been commonly worn by people in Ryukyu from 15th or 16th century. Bashofu has thick and bulky texture. The former half of the 20th century. This is a doll named "Eho-mairi". It means going and offering prayers at the temple or the shrine which is located in the lucky direction of the year on the New Year's Day. This doll is one of the Japanese dolls called "kimekomi ningyo" which is a wood carved figure with costume made of pasted textiles. The doll is holding a branch with many lucky toys hanging such as daruma, tai ( sea bream ), koban ( oval gold coin ), dice etc...

These are wood curved miniature masks of various faces. They are: Okame ( or Otafuku ), Hannya, Hyottoko, Okame, Man, Old man ( clockwise from top left ). Okame or Otafuku is a derogatory name for a female clown or middle aged woman with an ugly face. Hannya is also a woman's face with horns with expression of rage. Hyottoko is a name of male clown or derogatory name for a man. It is said he is blowing on a fire with a bamboo pipe...
