This is a cotton zanshi-ori futonji. Zanshi-ori is handwoven of leftover threads　at home. It has some kasuri threads and the threads are mostly natural-dyed. In excellent condition. The former half of the 20th century. 92cm x 152cm

This is a meisen kimono which is a plain weave pongee silk woven by machine. It is "heiyo-gasuri" that means weft and warp kasuri threads are stencil-dyeing. 1930s~40s. Probably made in Isezaki in Gunma prefecture. In excellent condition. 122cm x 142cm

This is a wooden ornament with carved Chinese-style poetry reads as "Kōrō ni meigetsu kitaru" in Japanese meaning "the bright moon has come above the high building". It has sign, however unidentified. In good condition. Width of the top:6.5cm, Width of the bottom:10cm, Length:97.5cm, Thickness:1cm

This is a small boro cloth made of many cotton pieces which are kasuri, stripes, plain and so on. Most of them are dyed with natural indigo. The former half of the 20th century. 72cm x 91cm

This is a noren ( curtain ) made of shina-fu which is the bast fiber taken from the bark of the shina tree. The shina tree grows widely in Japan and shina-fu had been woven since ancient time, however it is woven only in Yamagata or Niigata prefecture these days. This noren has katazome ( stencil-resist-dyeing ) design. It has wear in the lower parts and some holes. 20th century. 108cm x 144cm

These are wood curved miniature masks of various faces. They are: Okame ( or Otafuku ), Hannya, Hyottoko, Okame, Man, Old man ( clockwise from top left ). Okame or Otafuku is a derogatory name for a female clown or middle aged woman with an ugly face. Hannya is also a woman's face with horns with expression of rage. Hyottoko is a name of male clown or derogatory name for a man. It is said he is blowing on a fire with a bamboo pipe...

This is a pair of bamboo ornaments with carved Chinese-style poetry, however some Chinese characters are not readable, so its meaning is not clear either. In good condition. W:9.5cm, L:94cm

This is an obi ( sash ) made of light beige plain weaving silk and black silk satin for the lining. It has beautiful and delicate freshwater crabs, traps and nadeshiko design which are stencil-dyed. It has 5 and a half design altogether. In excellent condition for this age except for a few black spots. Early 20th century. 29.5cm x 380cm
