Azuma Hideo (1950~ ) is an emerging urushi artist and craftsman whose work is novel and creative. This is a wooden bowl on which camellias and a plum tree with blossoms are carved and painted with urushi (Japanese lacquer). In excellent condition. Contemporary. Japanese Lacquer (Urushi) bowl made by Azuma Hideo (1950~ ) who is an emerging urushi artist and a craftsman. Gourds are hand-carved on wooden base and red and black urushi are lacquered. Brand-new condition. Contemporary. Height 8.5cm 3.3" Diameter 13.5cm 5.3"

Nice shibori kimono (yukata)made of hand-spun cotton and dyed with natural indigo. Traditional kikko (tortoise shell) and karakusa pattern. In excellent condition except for two almost unnoticeable light stains (2~3cm). Taisho or early Showa era (1920s~1930's). 126cm x 144cm 49.6"x56.7"

These are rather casual urushi wooden plates compared with fancy gold-lacquered ones. In nicely simple shape. In excellent condition, however not as smooth and shiny as fancy lacquer wares. Meiji era. Diameter 16cm 6" Height 1.7cm 1"

Gorgeous fukuro obi for furisode ( formal kimono for young woman ) with pattern of flying cranes and phoenixes. Silk woven with gold threads. In excellent condition. Taisho or early Showa era (1920s~1930s). 33cm x 4m4cm 13"x13ft1/4"

Ikat (kasuri) double checkers pattern futon cover, hand woven cotton dyed with natural indigo. It has several mending patches(two of 3x5cm and two of 3x3cm) but in good condition as a whole. Meiji era( 1868~1912 ). 130cm x 220cm 4.3ft x 7.2ft

This wooden tobacco tray with drawers is an another example of beautiful craftsmanship in old days. Two copper containers are for ash (larger one) and water(smaller one). Noshi (an ornament put on a gift ) pattern is carved out in the back. In good condition except for two chips in front. Meiji era ( 1868~1912). Height 16.5cm 6.5" Width 24.5cm 9.6" Depth 14cm 5.5"

Gorgeous gold raised lacquerwork (taka-makie) wan with rare pattern of cocoons, moth and mulberry leaves. Both a lid and a bowl are amazingly thin.
