This is a Rokushaku-kanban which was worn by a palanquin bearer ( kago-kaki ) for a high ranking samurai. Happi and this kind of kimono are called "kanban ( shop sign )" as they have kamon ( crest ) or yagō ( shop name ) which are katazome ( stencil dyeing ). This is an old yosegire juban ( under kimono ) made of many kinds of recycled silk kimono fragments. Yosegire means cloth made of many pieces sewn together. It has many kinds of silk cloth such as tsumugi ( pongee silk ) with shibori, plain silk with stripe, tsumugi with itajime shibori ( board-clamp dyeing ) for upper body and wool muslin with katazome for the sleeves. This is a scroll made of fukusa ( gift cover ) which is hand-woven tsuzure-ori ( tapestry weave ) silk cloth. Fukusa was used to cover a gift in old days. This fukusa has an auspicious motif of "Jurojin" who is one of the Seven Gods of Fortune and a symbol of longevity. The scroll also has beautiful silk brocade pieces for mounting. In good condition except for some threads are lost in the turtle's head and the foot behind, and also patina in the light blue ground of the fukusa...
