This is a large komebukuro ( rice bag ) made of hand-spun cotton and dyed with natural indigo and vegetable brown color. Komebukuro was used when people exchange rice as gift or donated it to a shrine or a temple. It has check, stripe and katazome ( stencil-dyeing ) pattern. It has beautiful natural indigo dyed asa ( hemp ) cord. 19th century. In good condition except for a few mending patches. Size when it is flat: 77.5cm x 52cm
