Japanese Vintage Textile Pilgrim's Stamped Kimono
This is a pilgrim's kimono ( byaku-i ) with countless stamps of 88 sacred sites ( temples ) and other sites in Shikoku district ( Kagawa, kochi, Ehime and Tokushima prefecture ). The pilgrimage ( generally called "jun-rei" ) in Shikoku is especially called "o-henro" since the routes are long ( 1300km ), remote and severe. This kimono has kanji letters which mean "go together with Kobo-daishi ( Kukai AD 774~835 )"@who opened the Shingon sect of esoteric Buddhism. It is said that he visited those 88 places. In excellent condition. The former half of the 20th century. 124cm x 57.5cm
