This is a furoshiki ( wrapping cloth ) made of cotton and dyed with natural indigo. It has tai ( sea bream ) motif drawn with tsutsugaki technique which is free-hand paste-resist dyeing using a cone-shaped tool. Tai is a symbol of luckiness and eaten on a happy occasion. It has exactly same tsutsugaki picture on both sides that requires higher skill than the one side tsutsugaki. Generally in good condition but has some indigo color faded parts, several dark spots, a few small holes and rips. The latter half of the 19th century. 96cm x 96cm
