| This is an oval box with a lid made of bentwood ( magemono ) and coated with urushi. The technique called "magemono" is bending wood plates such as Japanese cedar or Japanese cypress and bound with bark strips of the cherry tree or bamboo strips. This box has beautiful patterns of cherry strips. What was put in this box is not clear. It has three different owner's names. In good condition but has some scratches, chips and some parts urushi came off. 19th or early 20th century. W: 50.7cm L: 28.5cm H: 28cm | |||||||||||||||
