Japanese Vintage Textile Miyako-Jōfu Kimono
This is a Miyako-Jōfu woman's kimono which was produced in Miyako Island in Okinawa. Miyako-jōfu is handwoven of choma (ramie) and the warps as well as the wefts of this kimono are hand-plied. It is said that it has been woven in the island since 14th century and imposed as levy till 19th century. It is very precious as it needs many different craftspeople in each process such as choma cultivation, plying of fibers, binding and dyeing of kasuri threads, weaving and beating. This kimono has plume kasuri pattern. Generally in good condition except for some wear of the threads in the lower parts and in the back sleeves, and some stains in the white asa lining cloth of the collar. The former half of the 20th century. 124cm x 138cm
