Wrapping cloth with auspicious noshi design. Noshi is an ornament put on the gift on the happy occasion and used to be made with dried abalone strips in old days but it is replaced with paper these days. It is dyed with tsutsugaki which is the free-hand dyeing technique using rice paste as resist. Hand-spun cotton and dyed with natural indigo. In good condition except for a mending patch and some pin holes. Late 19th to early 20th century. 107cm x 118cm
