Fragment of Noh robe. The fabric is called "karaori" which literally means Chinese weaving. The red ground is dyed with benibana(safflower) that means this robe is for a role of a young woman. All the dyes are vegetable. The motifs are fences, mums and rindo(Japanese gentian). Generally in good condition except for a mending patch in the back. Mid Edo period (18th century) 45cm x 34.5cm
