Small boro futonji made of many kinds of hand-spun and natural indigo dyed cotton fragments such as stripes, plain, checks. The ground cloth is not large one sheet cloth but it is patchwork of many small fragments. It is said in Northern area, cotton was not cultivated because of the colder climate, so that it was very precious. The bunch of the cotton rags and tatters were shipped there and people bought it and made it into noragi (work wear), futonji, bags and so on. Late 19th to mid 20th century. 89cm x 73cm
