Yu-age which is made of indigo dyed cotton with tsutsuhaki auspicious motif. There was a custom in San-in district when married daughter had a baby, her parents prepared items such as yu-age (towel), ko-oi-obi (baby sling), mutsuki (diaper) and ashi-fuki (foot towel). They are called "mago goshirae". This is a yu-age used when a newborn baby had the first bath. It has red color in the corner dyed with akane (madder) or benibana (safflower) as red color was believed to expel evil. Baby's eye and mouth were wiped with the red part. This one looks dyed with akane (madder) or alizarin. In excellent condition. Meiji period (1868~1912) 67cm x 96cm
