This is a Kurume kasuri ( ikat ) futon cover which is hand-woven and natural indigo dyed. It has beautiful butterfly pattern ( weft kasuri ) and square pattern ( weft & warp kasuri ). Kurume has been one of the main producing areas of cotton kasuri in Kyushu since ca. 1800s having been influenced by Ryukyu-gasuri. Ryukyu is an another name for Okinawa islands which are located in most south part of Japan. In good condition except for three mending patches ( 3.5 x 4cm, 5 x 5cm, 6 x 6cm ) and a rip near the upper rim. Meiji period ( 1868~1912 ) 95cm x 150cm 37.4" x 59"
