This is a fragment of Edo kosode ( literal meaning is small sleeves ) kimono which is silk crepe with beautiful embroideries. the ground silk crepe as well as embroidery threads are dyed with vegetable dyes. This kosode kimono was worn by a woman in high ranking family. The motifs of the embroideries are chrysanthemums and a sparrow. The ground silk crepe is weak from aging. Mid to Late Edo period ( late 17th C to early 19th C ) 31cm x 118cm 12.2" x 46.4"
