This is a piece of Shina-fu, one kind of bark-fiber. Shina wood grows naturally in Japan Sea side in Tohoku district. Shina-fu becomes stronger when it is wet, so it was used for fishing-net and grain bag etc. It has many moth holes. Meiji or Taisho period ( ca late 19th C to early 20th C ) 33cm x 3m34cm 13" x 11ft
