| This is a pilgrim's coat made of hand-woven hemp. It has many stamps of holy places where the pilgrim had visited as well as Sanscrit letters and a beautiful stamped image of Fudo ( Cetaka ) in the center back. One can read kanji letters "Omine-san" which is one of the mountains between Wakayama and Nara prefecture where "shugen-sha ( holy man )" has been practicing Shugendo. The area was designated as "World Heritage". Shugendo is one of Japanese indigenous religions born about 1000 years ago and it worships mountains. It was combined with Buhddism later. In excellent condition. Late 19th century. 126cm x 102cm 49.6" x 40" | |||||||||||||||
