| This is a costume for Bunraku which is also called Ningyo Joruri. Bunraku is a form of puppet theater which came to flourish among common people in the 18th century. This costume is made of silk crepe with embroidery and hand-spun cotton wa-sarasa in the lining, the both are from Edo period, however some cloths are replaced with much younger ones. It has a hole for a head in the top part and holes for hands in the sleeves. It has wear, rips and mending patches. 83cm x 102cm 32.7" x 40" | ||||||||||||||
