| This is a cape, called "Maru-gappa" or "Hikimawashi" which is made of hand-woven and natural indigo dyed cotton kasuri cloth on both sides. It was worn in case of travel or rain. It has oil coated Japanese paper for waterproof inside. The word "kappa" came from Portuguese "capa". The Portuguese first came to Japan in ca. 17th century. The former half of the 19th century. In excellent condition except for buttons are lost. Length 109cm 43" Width when it is extended 236cm 7ft9" | ||||||||||||
