Emile Galle was one of the most important producers of cameo glass in France. His firm, founded in Nancy, France, in 1874, produced beautiful cameo glass items. The bright colors of the enamels on this cloisonne vase are oriental in feel and Art Deco in style. It measures 5.7" at the top diameter, 4.7" at the bottom diameter, and is 6.4" high. This Mont Joye Vase has an elaborate gilt neck band of Art Deco lacy designs and gilt vines, leaves, and flowers down the front side. The entire background is frosted glass and the very back is plain (no gilt florals). This extraordinary piece is a Rookwood silver overlay vase. The vase features a standard glaze, with beautiful floral design, and Gorham applied silver overlay. The Rookwood mark, found on the base, dates the piece 1892. It is also marked with the artist's initials CFS, Caroline Frances Steinle, who worked for Rookwood from 1886 to 1925.
