| This is a 1/2 liter Mettlach stein with ceramic inset Caduceus emblem, circa 1910-1930. The emblem is set in the top of the pewter lid. Books surround the body of the stein. The handle and trim are a cobalt blue. The bust of Hermes is on the thumb plate. Caduceus is the name given to the staff, it was used by the messengers of the gods, especially Hermes. The Caduceus of Hermes was a magic wand which exercised influence over the living and bestowed wealth and prosperity. It turned everything it touched into gold. The stein measures 6 3/4" tall and 4" in diameter. | ||
