| Moche anthropomorphic, zoomorphic blackware ceramic stirrup vessel, phase four to five Larco (transitional) ca 300 A.D.-600 A.D.. A human (priest) with mask of wolf adorned in ceremonial ornaments, including conspicuous headdress, large earrings and elaborate robe. The priest is performing a traditional ritual ceremony of sacrifice situated between two mountains (as at Huaca de la Luna) and is apparently consuming some of the victim's flesh or blood. The human sacrifice being held by a supernatural anthropomorphized being or warrior Priest masked as cat or wolf holding mace in hand. Victim supine, head resting in lap of warrior priest, legs dangling and sprawled. 9 inches/22.9 cm tall. Some wear, minor pitting. Very interesting piece. Private East Coast collection acquired by descent. | ||
