Vicus Snake and Mouse Vessel

Vicus Polychrome Anthropomorphic Spouted Stirrup Vessel. BC 200 -AD 200. 11.5 inches/30 cm tall by 8 inches/20 cm front to back. Private East Coast collection. Depicting snake with deformed mouth, eyes beaded and raised, devouring a mouse, head first. Mouse is holding onto each side of the snake head with articulated arms. Arms encircled with brown bracelet-like bands, two on each arm. Mouse ears pronounced with eyes and tail in relief. It is possible mouth of snake is a spout. Cannot introduce wood pick and did not fill vessel with water. Some kind of legs or such protruding from each side top and bottom. Long fringed back of snake curved and in relief running center top to bottom down back. Two geometric designs top of body under stirrup. Excellent condition.
