Inca Stone Canopa

Inca Canopa. Ca.1476 - 1534 A.D. A very nice Alpaca black stone canopa or votive image. 4.75in/12cm long. Canopas were used in a type of communal offering. Usually the hole in the piece is filled with llama fat or other "gift" such as coca leaves. The offering is for the benefit of the community in the hopes of better crops or herds of llama, alpaca or vicuna. Very small chip on left side of mane and tiny chip on top of right ear. Excellent piece. Acquired at antique auction 1990s.
