CHIMU DOUBLE SPOUTED BLACKWARE STIRRUP VESSEL. Anthropomorphic, zoomorphic. Ca. 900 - 1300 A.D. 7.5 inches tall by7.25 inches wide. Acquired at auction mid 1990s. Double spouted stirrup. Stirrup having pointed saw tooth type pinnacles on top of handle. One side of flask having, contained in a designed square, a standing image of Naylamp, the mythical ruler and founder of the Chimu and Lambayeque civilizations. Naylamp is framed on both sides with pelicans in relief. The opposite side displays in a square, a crescent encircled also by pelicans in relief. Very nice elaborate relief figures. Excellent condition.
