Circa 1900 Japanese ivory netsuke of a Kappa creature on the back of a catfish. According to Japanese folklore kappa were the size of a small child, but with the strength of many men and lived in streams, ponds, and rivers. Hand carved and artist signed, please note this kappa's facial and eye details. He also features a dish type indentation on the top of his head for holding water when on land. Measures 2.75 inches long

An elegant Japanese kiseru with a wooden double gourd ojimie. We believe the pipe case and tobacco box to be made from Sakura, cherry blossom wood, (Prunus serrulata). In excellent condition, the pipe case measures 9.5" long, pipe: 7.5" long, and the tobacco box is just under 3" in diameter.

Japanese hanging tobacco pipe set consisting of a wooden pipe holder and a wood tobacco box in the form of the 2 mythical fishermen Ashinaga (Long Legs) and Tenaga (Long Arms). Tenaga's face lifts and functions as a cover for the tobacco box which still has much of the original tobacco inside. Ashinaga, the elongated standing figure is the pipe holder which also serves as a scoop. In excellent condition except for the ojime (sliding ball) which is missing most of it's lacquer...
